Yesterday, Sierra Canyon proudly hosted the Lower School Spelling Bee, highlighting the academic excellence of our 5th and 6th Grade students.
The annual Lower School Spelling Bee is a beloved tradition that celebrates our Trailblazers' exceptional vocabulary and spelling skills. Hosted in the Lower School Barn, 6th Grade Latin teacher Mrs. Anderson and 6th Grade English teacher Ms. Tokatyan led this year's competition and featured ten dedicated finalists. These students demonstrated remarkable commitment, dedicating countless hours to mastering challenging words and honing their pronunciation in preparation for this highly anticipated event.
Contestant families and students from 3rd–6th Grade supported the finalists throughout the spirited competition. The "oohs" and "ahs" of the audience mounted with each passing round, the excitement fixed on each letter spoken by our intrepid wordsmiths. Following several challenging rounds, the contest reached an exciting conclusion as Grayson C. '32 secured victory by correctly spelling "egotistical." Grayson will now represent Sierra Canyon in the Scripps online test, with the chance to advance to the LA County Regional Spelling Bee.
We are incredibly proud of all our orthographic finalists: Aly T. '31, Brenton D. '32, Cameron V. '32, Gia S. '31, Grayson C. '32 (winner), Henry V. '31, Lucas R. '32, Madison W. '31 (runner-up), Olivia M. '31, and Yanna Y. '32.
The Sierra Canyon Lower School Spelling Bee highlights each participant's unique talents and dedication while showcasing embodied standards of excellence to which all students aspire.
