Miranda L. '25 was named a semifinalist in the acting category of The Music Center's 37th Annual Spotlight program, a prestigious competition that celebrates and supports exceptional young artists across Southern California.

The Music Center's Spotlight program is a free competition offering high school students opportunities for scholarships, artistic development, and master classes with renowned professionals. Participants compete in seven categories: acting, ballet, classical instrumental, classical voice, contemporary instrumental, dance, and non-classical voice, with more than $100,000 in scholarships awarded annually.

Miranda's advancement to the semifinals is a testament to her dedication and artistic growth. After competing last year and not advancing beyond the preliminary round, she challenged herself with a monologue from Tribes by Nina Raine, which explores the experiences of the deaf community. To prepare, she immersed herself in American Sign Language, working closely with a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) neighbor who helped her understand the significance of facial expressions in signing. Through this process, Miranda refined her performance and was especially proud to learn that her interpretation resonated deeply with her neighbor's childhood experiences. Reflecting on her journey, Miranda shared, "As an artist, I now see acting as more than just performance—it is about giving voice to those who often go unheard and bringing real human struggles to life on stage."

Miranda credits Sierra Canyon's Theater Program with teaching her to embrace opportunities and take risks. She recalls performing a Shakespeare monologue in front of the entire Upper Campus community and participating in live theater productions—experiences that developed her confidence and prepared her for auditions like Spotlight. She expressed gratitude for her Sierra Canyon theater mentors, including Mrs. Lichtman, Mr. Armstrong, and Mr. Schrode, whose guidance and support have been pivotal in her development as an artist.

With a passion for both STEM and the arts, Miranda plans to pursue a double major in college. Last year, she earned first place at the Los Angeles County Science and Engineering Fair. Alongside her science pursuits, she authored Zeta and Her Journey on Earth 1 and Zeta and Her Journey on Earth 2. This picture book series follows the adventures of Zeta, a curious alien exploring Earth and uncovering STEM concepts through fun storytelling and experiments. Continuing to merge science and the arts, Miranda is currently developing Finding Colors, a play that integrates mathematical concepts and physics experiments into its narrative.

Sierra Canyon's entrepreneurial program empowers students to pursue their passions and attain their best. By the time they graduate, Trailblazers are not only prepared to thrive at top colleges and universities but also forge purposeful careers.
