The Sierra Canyon Chapter of the Cum Laude Society welcomed 30 new members at the 12th annual induction ceremony last week.
Gathering in the Upper Campus Gymnasium, proud families joined students, faculty, and administrators to celebrate the inductees for their hard work, dedication, and academic excellence. Upper School Director Stephanie Rubin spoke about the Cum Laude Society's tradition of recognizing outstanding scholarship and the significance of this achievement. With only 31 chapters in California and 382 nationwide, Sierra Canyon remains part of an elite group committed to honoring academic excellence at the highest level.
Following the introduction, 2024 inductee Hannah L. '25 took the stage to give this year's student address. A Sierra Canyon Lifer, Hannah has consistently excelled in her studies, particularly in languages, where she earned a 5.0 GPA while taking five AP courses in both her junior and senior years. Her dedication extends beyond academics, as she has also been an accomplished violinist for over a decade and served as the Associate Principal of the second violin section in a chamber orchestra. As captain of the Tennis Team, Hannah has demonstrated leadership both on and off the court. Known for her kindness and warmth, Hannah has left a lasting impact on the Sierra Canyon community.
Mr. Chris Sampon, Director of Performing Arts, delivered the faculty address. He congratulated students on their academic achievements and encouraged everyone to embrace the unfettered generative stages of creativity, as this is where breakthroughs often happen. He concluded by reminding students that the creative process is a journey of discovery and that it is through thoughtful exploration and persistence that they will continue to unlock their full potential. Jim Skrumbis, Head of School, joined him in presenting certificates and commemorative pins to the inductees, who will proudly wear these badges of erudition on their robes during graduation. Following the ceremony, newly inducted members and their families were honored at a luncheon in the Upper Campus Library.
This year's induction includes 13 new members from the Class of 2025 and 17 new members from the Class of 2026.
