This week, Sierra Canyon's Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade students celebrated the 100th day of school.
For this special occasion, students creatively embraced the theme of "100"—including dressing up as their 100-year-old selves and participating in activities that enhanced their learning across subjects.
Pre-Kindergarten students participated in interactive learning that reinforced foundational numeracy skills. Through hands-on activities, they explored the concept of 100 by counting ten sets of ten snack items and constructing structures using 100 linking cubes, chains, and pattern blocks. These engaging exercises deepened their understanding of numerical concepts while celebrating their growth as young Trailblazers.
In preparation for this milestone, Kindergarten students practiced counting by tens in anticipation of a special visit from Zero the Hero. During his visit, Zero guided them through activities such as performing ten sets of ten exercises. He also read 100th Day Worries by Margery Cuyler, a story highlighting perseverance and overcoming challenges. The celebration culminated with a 100th-day cake, making their accomplishment even sweeter.
Students in 1st Grade spent the day engaging in activities that strengthened their numerical and literacy skills. They made 100 Froot Loop necklaces and participated in a "100 licks" challenge to develop number sense. To incorporate literacy into the celebration, students expanded their vocabulary and writing skills by compiling a collection of 100 words.
The 100th day of school is a meaningful academic milestone—providing students with an opportunity to celebrate their progress, reinforce skills, and build excitement for the learning yet to come.
