Trailblazer News

Middle School 7th Grade English students have been deeply engaged in independent reading, creatively demonstrating their comprehension by creating Bloom Balls.

A Bloom Ball is a three-dimensional project with twelve sides, each highlighting a unique aspect of the students' selected book. This creative format allows readers to engage deeply with their chosen stories and visually showcase their insights. Students examined the meaning behind their book's title, provided background information about the author, explored key themes and conflicts, highlighted significant quotations, and posed thought-provoking questions. Books like Sunny Makes Her CaseThe Last Olympian, and Amari and the Night Brothers offered a variety of genres and perspectives for students to explore. Grayson C. '30 said, "It was a fun experience that strengthened our critical thinking skills."

Creating Bloom Balls also provided students with an opportunity to express their creativity. Using their unique artistic vision, students demonstrated another way to bring their books to life, making their projects as visually captivating as they were insightful. Emma J. '30 shared, "I like reading and coloring a lot because it calms me down and reduces my stress."

At Sierra Canyon, our Middle School program is designed to channel students' inquisitive energy while fostering the academic skills needed to thrive as learners and individuals. Through the Bloom Balls multifaceted approach, students enhanced their understanding of complex texts and developed the confidence and skills to share their insights in meaningful and innovative ways.
