Through a series of meaningful activities and collaborations, Lower School students celebrated Kindness Week, an initiative designed to foster empathy, community, and the joy of giving back.
At Sierra Canyon, the Big 4 values—Honesty, Kindness, Respect, and Responsibility—are the cornerstone of our Character Program. This year, the School proudly introduced the Big 4 Ambassadors, a new opportunity for 6th Grade student leaders to be role models and build connections across grade levels. During Kindness Week, these ambassadors played a vital role, visiting younger grade-level classrooms to read stories, lead discussions, and facilitate activities that brought Kindness to life. Kemi O. '31 shared, "Being a Big 4 Ambassador for 1st Grade made me feel like a role model. It was cute having all their faces looking at me while I read a story about kindness. It was a great experience."
Kindness Week extended beyond the classroom through a meaningful partnership with the Parents of Black Students (PBS) and the non-profit organization Project Pay It Forward (PIF). Founded by San Fernando Valley resident Sofi Villalpando, PIF is dedicated to supporting local unhoused individuals by providing essential items. This effort was made possible thanks to the generosity of Lower Campus families, who donated hygiene products such as toothbrushes, shampoo, and body wash. To make the project a truly cross-campus initiative, Upper Campus Black Student Union (BSU) members joined Lower Campus students to fill over 200 canvas bags with donated items. When Sofi visited campus to collect the bags, she shared her heartfelt gratitude, saying, "I cannot wait to distribute these. They are so needed."
Throughout Kindness Week, Sierra Canyon's Lower Campus demonstrated that small, thoughtful actions can have a profound impact. From 1st Grade students spreading joy through creative projects to cross-campus collaborations uniting students of all ages, the week showcased the School's unwavering commitment to nurturing a compassionate and connected community.
