Mental Health Awareness Week, held from November 12 to 15, was a weeklong celebration thoughtfully organized by the newly established Student Wellness Ambassador Program.

Under the guidance of Upper Campus Wellness Director Dr. Hobson, students participated in various activities throughout the week that highlighted the importance of mental health, encouraged creative exploration of wellness, and fostered a sense of community and self-care. On Tuesday and Thursday, during lab periods, students had the opportunity to unwind during calming yoga sessions in the Blackbox Theater, led by certified yoga instructor Alexis O. '26. Wednesday's lunch activity focused on making "Gratefulness-Grams," heartfelt notes of gratitude to schoolmates and teachers, with over 100 grams delivered, spreading joy and appreciation throughout the Upper Campus.

A highlight of the week was Wednesday's assembly for Upper School students, where club leaders shared presentations on mental health awareness. They educated their peers on tools such as meditation apps, crisis and security lines, CPR first-aid training, the new Mental Health for Athletes Club, and community service opportunities related to mental wellness. Afterward, students enjoyed lively activities, including karaoke, bubble play, sidewalk chalk art, with wellness drinks and shots provided by the Parent Association. Tommy, the adorable dog of our Head of School, Mr. Skrumbis, joined the fun, bringing smiles to everyone. Students left with mental health gift bags filled with fidget items, uplifting stickers, crisis line cards, and green ribbons symbolizing mental health awareness. On Thursday, students participated in a fun slime-making activity, and the week concluded on Friday with a cozy movie screening of Inside Out 2 in Founders Union, complete with a beautifully curated hot cocoa bar, popcorn, and candy canes—creating a perfect end to a week dedicated to mental well-being.

This celebration was a testament to the power of community and collaboration. Our Sierra Canyon community will carry forward the spirit of Mental Health Awareness Week and continue prioritizing wellness as the academic year proceeds.

A special thank you to the Parent Association for their support and to the students for their dedication and hard work—Alexis O. '26, Sophia C. '27, Arpi S. '27, Emma B. '26, Brayden C. '26, Lexie A. '25, Melissa E. '25, Ally T. '25, Mariah M. '28, and Eleanor Y. '27—as well as the faculty and staff, including Dr. Hobson, Ms. Klemmer, Ms. Koss, Mrs. Miller, and Mrs. Lee, for helping make this week so meaningful and impactful for our entire community.
