On Wednesday, June 5, families, friends, and faculty gathered to celebrate the Class of 2030 as they bid farewell to the Lower Campus.
The Ceremony began with a warm welcome from Head of School, Jim Skrumbis, followed by the lighting of the first candle from Sierra Canyon Founders Mick Horwitz and Howard Wang. The 6th Grade class, aptly named "Legacy," is the first to celebrate this occasion in The Barn, and they have spent the last couple of weeks reflecting on their educational experience and writing their I Am poems. As part of their promotion to Middle School, each student recited their work in front of their families and friends. Additionally, a slideshow featuring each student's picture from Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten contrasted with one from this year was shared to commemorate this momentous milestone.
Lower School Director Kristine Theodoratos and Middle School Director Lindsay Koss each lit one candle and shared their reflections on this special group of students as they move on to new horizons. Mrs. Theodoratos shared her final thoughts, "Memories provide the important scenes in your life's story. Be discerning with them and hold them dear. They are not complete but rather a part of who you are becoming." As the Ceremony ended, Lower School Dean of Students Adam Horwitz offered a final commendation, beautifully wrapping up the occasion.
Congratulations to the Class of 2030, and best wishes on your new adventures!
