Sierra Canyon's commitment to developing well-rounded and happy students set the foundation for the new initiative, Wellness Wednesday.

This week, faculty, staff, and student leaders Luke S. '24 and Ally T. '25 launched the inaugural Wellness Wednesday with a variety of activities and resources to promote students' physical, mental, and emotional wellness, including a Q&A discussion with Kendall Jenner, mental health advocate, and Sierra Canyon alum. In addition to this very special speaker, there were over 30 optional wellness opportunities offered for students to recharge and focus on their journey to a healthier self. Some of the offerings included:

  • Cooking classes
  • CPR training
  • Self-defense workshops
  • Vision board creation
  • Financial wellness seminars
  • Growth mindset discussions
  • Rejuvenating yoga sessions
  • Community service activities
  • Mural painting
  • Crafting pinch pots from clay
  • Hiking in the Chatsworth hills
  • Boxing session at the Mayweather Boxing Studio

At lunch, a community karaoke event with special furry guests, Tatum, Tommy, Peanut, Coco, Win-Bingo, Hank, Kenlee, Nala, Kane, and Tyson, brought musical fun and fluffy snuggles to the day.

The day concluded in the Gymnasium with Sierra Canyon alum and mental health advocate Kendall Jenner. Wellness Director Dr. Serena Hobson and Wellness Wednesday student leaders led a discussion with Kendall, where they examined the importance of monitoring and fortifying one's mental health and wellness.

For those who spent the day off campus, many shared their appreciation for the opportunity to utilize the day for adequate rest and sleep, work on college applications, or attend healthcare appointments. Sierra Canyon remains committed to creating a balance to accommodate the diverse needs of our students, enabling them to excel academically and thrive in their personal lives.

Students left the day feeling "more connected to the community." The question we heard more than a few times at the end of the day was, "When is the next Wellness Wednesday?"
