Trailblazer News

In our Pre-Kindergarten classrooms, every season brings new opportunities for growth and discovery.

Our youngest Trailblazers love getting into the holiday spirit, and their teachers make the most of this every year by integrating the changing seasons and festivities into classroom lessons. Most recently, in Pre-Kindergarten, pumpkins took centerstage as students looked to this hallmark of fall to practice science and art. After learning about the five senses and exploring the life cycle of a pumpkin, students had the opportunity to get their hands dirty (literally!) by digging into giant pumpkins and recording their observations. This hands-on approach to science sparked curiosity and a love of learning that culminated with tasting pumpkin pie!

In addition to their science activities, students engaged in Halloween art projects. They utilized oil pastels to draw pumpkin shapes and applied hand-painted techniques to produce varying shades of orange by blending yellow and red. Following this, students honed their fine motor skills, using scissors to cut out their pumpkin designs incorporating distinct mouth shapes, silly eyes, and eyebrows. These projects are perfect for developing creative expression while utilizing developmentally important skills for Pre-Kindergarten students.

Although it has not been long since these little learners began their Sierra Canyon journey, it is incredible to see the great strides they make each day. We look forward to seeing what upcoming celebrations will have practical applications in the Pre-Kindergarten classrooms!
