The Mental Health and Psychology Club hosted events for Upper Campus students, faculty, and staff for the first week of October in honor of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Sierra Canyon's Mental Health Awareness Week began with a calming yoga session led by Ms. Kibarska in the Blackbox Theater on Tuesday during lab. Students and faculty members said they felt restored and highly focused as they transitioned to their next class. During lunch, a Self-Love Booth was on the Plaza to foster belonging and promote self-esteem. Students wrote three things they loved about themselves and each other. Each Self-Love submission served as an entry into a raffle, where the winner received a weighted blanket, which may help with better sleep and enhance emotional regulation.

On Wednesday, a Bubble Booth was set up on the Plaza during lunch. This was an exciting way for students to engage in social play and build connections while taking the time to breathe by blowing bubbles. During lab on Thursday, Dr. Hobson led a meditation in the Silent Study Room to create a positive space for students to pause, breathe, and refocus their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Practicing mental health activities as a school is vital for the community's well-being. It decreases stigmas, reinforces the significance, and heightens the normalcy of making these health habits consistent. Meditation and yoga can help students strengthen their self-regulation and concentration, while mental health-focused community events like the Self-Love and Bubble Booths uplift and empower students.

Sierra Canyon will continue to promote mental health and other wellness activities throughout the year to improve social, emotional, and academic performance.
