This month, Ms. Galvez's Statistics class hosted guest speakers Audra Priluck (Justin '25, Garrett '30) from Smith Geiger Group and Stacy Isenhower, former VP of Streaming Content Insights at Paramount+.
Audra began the session by asking students, "What does it mean to say 'I am going to watch TV'?" This question prompted students to reflect on how different platforms, especially streaming services, have transformed media consumption. Stacy followed with insights into her work, explaining how she uses surveys and focus groups to uncover patterns in consumer behavior. She emphasized how data helps not only reveal trends but also understand the behaviors behind them.
This presentation is timely as Ms. Galvez's class is preparing for a project that analyzes patterns that occur on specific days of the week. In this project, students will take on the role of data consultant for a fictional lemonade company. Their tasks will include:
- Analyzing sales data
- Creating visual representations of their findings
- Identifying trends that may impact business decisions
This hands-on approach will allow students to apply the concepts they have learned in class to a real-world scenario, enhancing their understanding of how statistics can inform strategic planning.
Through their meaningful perspectives, these professionals provided the students insight into the value of their statistical skills and how data analysis applies across different industries.
