SC Students Receive National Latin Awards

Sierra Canyon School is proud to share the remarkable success of our Lower and Upper Campus students on the National Latin Exam.

The National Latin Exam is an annual test that assesses students' knowledge of Latin and its influence on the modern world. Students from across the United States and worldwide take the test covering grammar, comprehension, mythology, derivatives, literature, Roman life, history, geography, oral Latin, and the use of Latin in the modern world. This year, Sierra Canyon students continued to showcase their excellence, with 58 students recognized for their outstanding performance on the exam. Twenty students earned gold and silver medals, while 38 were awarded certificates of magna cum laude and cum laude for their achievements.

The World Languages program provides students with the skills to communicate effectively in several languages. Through comprehensive study, the School empowers its students to become ready to engage with and appreciate the diverse world around them. Although not commonly used for communication, students learn Latin as the foundation and structure of not just many modern languages, including English, but also Roman culture, literature, history, et al., which has been so influential since its beginning. "They worked diligently and enthusiastically to prepare for this test. I am proud of their efforts," shared 6^th Grade Latin teacher Mrs. Anderson. She and Upper Campus Latin teacher Mr. Faulkner are thrilled to see these Trailblazers embrace the challenge of learning a new language.
