Trailblazer News Softball Varsity

Last month, Sophia S. '26 traveled to Colombia for the country's National Games, showcasing her softball skills on the international stage.

In the spring of 2022, Sophia's path to softball international recognition began when she earned a spot on the first-ever U15 Colombian National Team. Despite her team falling short of the top four of the 2023 Pan-American Cup in Lima, Peru, Sophia's outstanding performance caught the attention of Team Bogotá. This pivotal moment led to an invitation to the National Games, Colombia's domestic Olympics. With this unique experience, Sophia transitioned from competing with peers to playing alongside women ranging from 18 to 38 years old.

Sophia's preparation for the National Games involved daily conditioning and practice with Sierra Canyon's Softball Team and her travel team. Given Team Bogotá's diverse composition, each player sent progress videos to their coaches and participated in webinars focusing on player mental health and well-being. The week-long National Games showcased a new softball experience for Sophia, including passionate spectators dancing, singing, and playing instruments in the stands. Despite the initial unfamiliarity, Sophia embraced the vibrant energy, sharing, "It was an electric experience."

Her journey is a testament to her dedication, and she remains active in the National Team program. Sophia's goals extend beyond her current achievements. While hoping for the opportunity to play softball in college while studying Engineering, she aspires to represent Colombia in the 2028 Olympics.

Congratulations to this true blue Trailblazer!
