Last week, the Class of 2035 took a trip to the Heritage Square Museum, where they experienced their Social Studies curriculum come to life.

The Heritage Square Museum explores the settlement and development of Southern California during its first 100 years of statehood through historic restoration and preservation. This remarkable museum houses eight historic structures dating back to the Victorian era. They were saved from demolition and now serve as a window into the daily lives of Southern Californians from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. Our Trailblazers were transported back in time, witnessing the magnificence of the William Perry Mansion and embracing the simplicity of the French-influenced Shaw House. This experience offered our students a unique look into the lifestyles of historical figures from our past.

As part of their social studies curriculum, 1st Grade students have been studying "Families Long Ago and Today" and examining the evolution of families over time. They have created timelines to illustrate the past, present, and future while discovering how artifacts, photographs, and books can shed light on history. Mrs. Gunny remarked on the significance of this field trip as a valuable addition to their curriculum. She shared, "We felt it was important to help our students understand the past by living in it. It is one thing to hold a photograph of a kitchen or dining room from many decades ago and a whole other to walk inside one. It is truly learning coming to life!"

For our young historians, this trip was an unforgettable experience they will carry with them as they continue to explore the world of history.
