Last week, the Class of 2027 deviated from their traditional classroom routines to build community and foster relationships among their classmates.

The 9th Grade Breakout is a day designed to bring the entire class together to participate in spirited competitions and peer-to-peer collaboration. To kick off the day, several Associated Student Body (ASB) members led the group in enjoyable team-building activities in the Gym. Next, they boarded buses and headed to a surprise off-site location for miniature golfing and bonding at Castle Park in Sherman Oaks.

When students returned to campus, they focused on self-reflection and goal-setting. They participated in an identity workshop guided by group leaders from the Classes of 2024, 2025, and 2026. The workshop encouraged students to explore who they are and look for common ground with their peers. Students ended the day by writing a letter to their future selves about who they are today and setting intentions for who they hope to be a year from now. These letters will be mailed to students next September so they can reflect on their growth.

Of course, no good Breakout is complete without delicious food. The students were treated to lunch from Oaxaca On Wheels, and they ended the day enjoying a delicious ice cream social catered by Nitropod.

It was wonderful to see the Class of 2027 come together to enjoy this full day of events. We look forward to building on this momentum in our weekly Advisory meetings for the remainder of the school year.
