This fall, Sierra Canyon's Upper Campus celebrated The Little Prince as the selected title for the Sierra Canyon Great Read.

On Wednesday, September 25, students and faculty gathered for a special Community Time presentation in the Gym, organized by the World Language Department, to officially launch the project. Mme. du Cos de la Hitte, who teaches The Little Prince each year in French III/Honors French III, shared her insights on the book and spoke about the life of author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Several advanced French students—Graelyn H. '26, Denise B. '26, Finn R. '26, Katelynn W. '25, Sadie O. '26, and Miranda L. '25—took part in the presentation, sharing passages that resonated with them and reflecting on the book's themes of love, friendship, and imagination.

Students also had the chance to test their knowledge in The Little Prince Kahoot competition on Friday, September 27, during Lunch 1 and 2 in the Founder's Union. Students brought their lunches and joined a lively trivia game, with prizes awarded to those who showcased their grasp of the book's characters and themes.

This initiative, driven by the Stewardship Committee, came from discussions last spring about finding creative ways to promote reading for enjoyment across the Upper Campus. The committee selected The Little Prince due to its universal themes and cultural significance and as a text that readers of all ages can appreciate. As Madame said during the presentation, "From 7 to 77, everyone can find something relatable and meaningful in the text."

By giving students a leadership role in the presentation and encouraging shared experiences, the Great Read reinforced the power of storytelling to connect the Sierra Canyon community.
