On Monday, November 13, Sierra Canyon School celebrated the South Asian festival of lights, Diwali, with lively cultural festivities.

Diwali, translating to "row of lights" in Sanskrit, an ancient Indo-European language, is celebrated with various traditions. Celebrants illuminate their homes with lamps filled with oil as sidewalks and streets come alive with vibrant and intricate rangoli patterns. The festival also brings families, especially siblings, together for visits and shared feasts.

Upper and Lower Campus students had the chance to explore Diwali traditions both in and out of the classroom. They engaged in hands-on learning experiences, discovering the festival's significance through activities like crafting many rangoli to display throughout our campuses. Additionally, parents visited the School to share insights about the holiday with students. The DEI PA served delicious mango lassis and milk cake, adding a delightful touch to the learning and celebration experience.

The Lower School Dance Company showcased their skills on both campuses with a traditional Bollywood dance. The talented performers included Siana D. '36, Kennedy S. '36, Vaani C. '35, Ashton S. '34, and Rhea J. '34. Students also enjoyed a performance by MKM Bollywood Stars, a professional dance company from Los Angeles. The founder and her team delivered an energetic and fast-paced show while teaching students the hand gestures used in Bollywood dance, such as the lotus and bunny. It was a fun and educational experience for all!

Thank you to the DEI PA for their valuable contributions and support. A very special thank you to the Ludlam family (Louis '34, Thomas '28) for organizing the event, the Hepburn family (Jayan '36) for sponsoring the MKM Bollywood Stars, the Rathod family (Ayaan '33) for providing the music videos and mango lassis, the Dhanji-Divri family for their hard work in choreographing and organizing our Lower School dancers, and the Davio family (Cosette '34, Brenton '32) for the beautiful decorations.

Your efforts made the event even more enjoyable and memorable!
