Sierra Canyon's Dyne Family Academic Resource Center provides a unique program offered for Upper Campus students and is another example of what sets us apart from other independent schools.

This year, the Dyne Family Academic Resource Center has undergone a renovation. The improved space is bright and airy, and the arrangement of tables promotes an environment of camaraderie and comfort where students are encouraged to take risks and ask questions. Hendrix H. '26 says, "Academic Support has helped me take stress off my shoulders by making me feel like I can slow down and really take the time to get work done at my own pace." In addition to the enhanced space, the Academic Support Team has expanded to three full-time Learning Specialists. This year, Jess Parks joins Alice Kessler, Chair of the Academic Support Department, and veteran Learning Specialist Katherine Cantwell in providing student support in all aspects of the curriculum. When asked about the program's purpose, Ms. Kessler said, "Our goal is to give students their own "toolbox" of skills that they can take with them to college and beyond." Each department member is a highly trained Learning Specialist, bringing a wealth of knowledge on best practices. Students develop academic prowess as well as study and organizational skills that promote independence.

Students enrolled in Academic Support can choose to work independently or in small groups with one of the Learning Specialists to review or reteach material, help prepare for tests, complete homework assignments, or work on long-term projects. Maxwell M. '26 explained, "Academic Support is a great class and a great opportunity for not only extra help but a way to expand on the knowledge learned in class." Organizational and study skills techniques are embedded in the work the Learning Specialists provide daily. The small class size and unique nature of the class allow students to build their confidence and skills in areas of challenge. The course offers many resources that students have greatly benefited from. "Academic Support has helped me learn how to manage my time and work. It has helped me keep my grades up. The help from the teachers is great," shared Dane D. '25.

The program is thoughtfully designed to reflect Sierra Canyon's core values and our mission to further enhance all aspects of the learning experience by cultivating an environment in which students can thrive academically. Grounded in our philosophy of inspiring students, it aims to foster a sense of community and encourages students to support one another in reaching their full potential.
