In honor of Earth Day, Sierra Canyon students took action to protect and preserve our planet by participating in many eco-friendly initiatives.

Our 1st and 6th Grade students rolled up their sleeves for hands-on gardening projects. Students in 1st Grade explored sustainability through planting, pot decorating, and creating upcycled bird feeders. Simultaneously, 6th Grade worked diligently to plant flowers around Founders Hall to help beautify the Lower Campus. Students in 5th Grade played a game centered on renewable energy sources and received an Earth Day sticker designed by classmate Braylen L. '31. The 7th Grade class also participated in a beautification project by partnering with Volunteers Cleaning Communities. They cleaned Chatsworth Street from Tampa to Vanalden and collected 118 bags of trash. The neighbors appreciated their efforts and personally came to the street to thank them.

To continue their eco-celebrations, the Lower Campus participated in a "No-Waste Lunch" organized by the Green Team. This initiative underlined the importance of minimizing waste and set a precedent, as the Team encouraged their peers to bring reusable containers, utensils, and bottles. In addition to the "No-Waste Lunch," Pre-Kindergarten embarked on an engaging scavenger hunt with everyone excitedly exploring nature. They also enjoyed a delicious dirt cake, complete with (gummy) worms. Kindergarten students also took their learning outdoors, as their day was filled with reading sessions under the sky and cross-age activities with 6th Grade.

From waste reduction to community beautification, our students have shown a remarkable understanding of sustainability and responsibility. Their actions have not only made a difference within our School but have also been recognized and appreciated by the broader community.
