On Tuesday, January 23, current 6th Grade parents and students engaged in an immersive morning of exciting activities on the Upper Campus.

The 6th Grade Step Up provides a glimpse into the Upper Campus, allowing students and parents to explore various academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular offerings. The day began with a parent education presentation. Attendees gained insights into the unique developmental phase of adolescence, understanding how our Middle School's programs are tailored to meet the social, emotional, and academic needs of 7th and 8th Grade students. Following an overview of our programs, parents embarked on a campus tour, observing math and science classes and advanced courses such as AP French, Dance Company, Intro to Engineering, Sculpture, and Animation.

As parents delved into classrooms, students explored the campus, relishing the Snack Shack's variety of choices and playing basketball and other games on the outdoor basketball court. The morning concluded in the Gym, where students and parents gathered together to learn about the Upper Campus experience from a panel of students and faculty. The student panel answered questions and shared their interests and passions, from Competitive Cheer to Filmmaking to Computer Science. Middle School Dean Ms. Jenny Hernandez and Wellness Director Dr. Serena Hobson spoke about the various ways teachers and administrators support the students and help them navigate any challenges.

Although we have two campuses, Sierra Canyon prides itself on being one school. The 6th Grade Step Up program is one of the many ways we guide parents and students through the transition from the Lower to Upper Campus. In the coming weeks, students will learn about the course selection process. Students will engage in a rotation of Art and STEM courses, introducing them to various Visual and Performing Arts as well as Computer Science and Math electives available in Middle and Upper School.

The School aims to ensure a seamless transition, providing these Trailblazers with the necessary support for a successful educational journey. Upper Campus faculty, staff, and students are eagerly looking forward to welcoming the class of 2030 to the other side of De Soto in the fall.
