Students in 4th Grade marked the completion of their first book club read with a morning full of book-themed competitions.

To further foster a love of reading, all 4th Grade students participate in in-class book clubs to supplement their traditional reading program. After teachers present a curated offering of books to read, students are placed into small groups according to which book they choose. They then gather at the halfway point and end to discuss and analyze the books.

The Book Club Bonanza featured active mind and body activities, including a relay race that involved stacking novels, a walking book balance, a life-sized memory game, and a book bingo game. These engaging activities encouraged teamwork and celebrated the students' shared love of reading, providing a fun and interactive way for them to engage with literature while developing their analytical skills. "The Bonanza made me feel excited and motivated to read more," shared Dunia H. '33.

These activities set the stage for in-class discussions, where students highlighted the key events that led to their book's conclusions. They then challenged each other with five-question tests they created about their books. While reflecting on the process, Dylan M. '33 said, "Our book clubs help me with time management, so I make sure to read a little every night to stay prepared for the halfway and final discussion groups." To wrap up the celebration, these Trailblazers enjoyed a themed treat: gummy worms, a nod to their embrace of the "bookworm" spirit.

The book club experience enhances students' understanding of literature, builds a strong community, and promotes a love of reading for pleasure. "I'm excited for the next round of books!" added Donovan K. '33.
