CLASS COORDINATORS
Class Coordinators are Sierra Canyon's version of room parents. There will be two to three Class Coordinators assigned to each grade. Specific duties vary per grade but can include acting as liaison between teachers and parents, planning/executing grade level celebrations (budget provided), preparing for classroom projects, sending out requests for volunteers, items needed for projects, announcements, reminders, etc. throughout the school year. Also, at least one Class Coordinator from each grade is required to attend each Parent Association meeting.
Please note that to be considered for the Classroom Coordinator position, interest must be submitted by September 1 through the 2024-2025 Parent Association Volunteer Sign-Up.

Time Commitment - varies per grade, but plan on 5-10 hours per semester
DEI - CELEBRATIONS AND COMMEMORATIONS
We are incredibly fortunate at Sierra Canyon to have such a diverse student and parent body. The PA-DEI committee shares and enhances the understanding and appreciation of our diversity through activities such as cultural events, community building, and speaking engagements. The first focus will be on Hispanic Heritage Month. Help is needed, immediately, with the multiple celebrations planned from mid-September to mid-October. Thereafter, the Committee Chairs have created a schedule of events throughout the year and will call upon day-of volunteers to help set-up, execute, and clean up each event. Your input into future events is invaluable and your participation is greatly appreciated. This Committee strives to celebrate our community’s cultural events with as much authenticity as possible. All Sierra Canyon community members are welcome to join and/or reach out to our PA-DEI committee at [email protected].

EARTH DAY
We love to celebrate Earth Day with a messy dirt cup. Committee member responsibilities include purchasing/organizing supplies, managing volunteers, event set-up, service, and clean up. Budget provided. Day-of volunteers are also needed to help set-up, execute, and clean up.
Date - April 22, 2025, 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Time Commitment - Committee member (2-4 hours); Day-of volunteer (2 hours from set-up to clean up)
FAMILY FUN NIGHT
There are two Family Fun Nights during the year – one in the Fall, and one in the Spring. This is a special evening in which all Lower Campus families are invited to share in an evening of food, fun, and games, at an off-campus location. It’s a great way to help bring the community together – and the students have a blast too! Committee members are provided with a budget to plan, organize, and promote these events. Day-of volunteers are needed to help with decorations, set-up, and clean up. Past events include roller skating, Dave & Busters, bowling, laser tag, MB2, family dance, and movie nights.
Date - November 15 or 22, 2024, and March 1 or 7, 2025
Time Commitment - Committee member - beginning 2 months prior to secure location, plan/organize, and promote event (approximately 8-10 hours) and evening of event; Day-of Volunteer (3-4 hours from set-up to clean up)
FARMHOUSE
In the Farmhouse, parents help Andy and his crew serve lunch to the students daily. This is a great way to see your child in action during the school day, and they love to see you too. Volunteers sign up for the days of the week they are available to serve lunch. The Farmhouse Captains create a rotating schedule for the month and notify volunteers of their assigned day(s).

Time Commitment - 11:35 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., on your serving day(s).
GRANDFRIENDS DAY
This is a memorable day each year where we host our Grandparents and Grand Friends on campus for the day. Volunteers arrive before the sun rises to help set-up for this special event. During the event, volunteers help direct grandparents/friends to their student’s classrooms, help serve food and assist in clean up. Note: Help is also needed in the days leading up to the event to prepare goody bags.

HALLOWEEN
We will be setting up a spooky treat buffet for students to enjoy during snack. Volunteer responsibilities include, event set-up, service, and clean up.

Time Commitment - 3 hours from set-up to clean up (approximately 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.)
LIBRARY
Throughout the school year, parent volunteers assist in the library under the direction of Sandi Cohen. Mrs. Cohen will send out specific needs, but opportunities include volunteering for grade level library visits. Also, during the spring, Mrs. Cohen organizes our wonderful Book Fair and will need parent volunteers. Look out for more information from Mrs. Cohen in the Trailblazer.

Time Commitment - 2-3 hours per semester
LOST AND FOUND
Volunteers work with the Committee Chair to sort/hang and deliver lost items to students. Also, a few times each semester, volunteers help to display lost items for easy retrieval. At the end of each semester, volunteers will gather all unclaimed non-uniform items for donation to a local charity.

Time Commitment - weekly sorting (1-2 hours) and displaying items 2-3 times per semester
PJ AND PANCAKE DAY
Pancake Day is a favorite SC tradition to kick-off Winter Break! Committee members are provided with a budget to plan, organize, purchase supplies and decor, manage volunteers, event set-up, service, and clean up. Day-of volunteers are also needed to help set-up, cook, serve, and clean up.
Date - December 20, 2024, 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Time Commitment - Committee meets a few hours late November to early December to plan/organize event; Day-of Volunteer (3-4 hours from set-up to clean up)
PAJAMA DRIVE
The Parent Association collects brand-new pajamas for ages infant to 12 years old, to benefit Pajama Program, an organization dedicated to promoting and supporting a bedtime routine and healthy sleep habits for children in foster care and shelters. The Drive is held the week before Winter Break. Committee members are needed to organize and promote the drive, and deliver the pajamas to a local charity. Budget provided. Day-of volunteers are needed throughout the week to put out the collection boxes and collect the pajamas during carpool.

Time Commitment - Committee Members meet a few hours late November/early December to plan/organize event; Day-of volunteers (1 hour per day)
PARENT SOCIAL
The Parent Social is a great way to kick off the new school year. It is a time to welcome new families and renew friendships with good food and drinks in a relaxed setting! Committee members will be provided with a budget to plan, organize/order catering, and promote the event. Day-of volunteers are needed to help with decorations, set-up, and clean up. There is a possibility there will be an additional event in the Spring.
Date - October 16, 2024, from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. (on campus)
Time Commitment - mid-September to mid-October to plan/organize, and promote event (approximately 2-4 hours); and evening of event 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Day-of Volunteer (3-4 hours from set-up to clean up)
SPECIALIST PERFORMANCE SUPPORT
Volunteers work with the Committee Chair and the specialist teacher(s) to support performances by decorating and assisting with performances and/or project goals. Opportunities include the Winter Concert, Spanish Spelling Bee, etc.

Time Commitment - 2-3 hours, from set-up to clean up
SPIRIT WEAR
Volunteers help to set-up, sell, and clean up at Pop-Up Shops throughout the school year, sporting events, and school events including Back to School Night and the Great Fair; inventory new and existing product; and help to sell on Friday morning at the Spirit Wear Store.

Time Commitment - varies per event, but typically 2-3 hours from set-up to clean up
STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCHEONS
Each semester, a luncheon is organized to show appreciation for the faculty and staff who take such good care of our kids every day at school! Committee volunteers are provided with a budget to plan this day by coming up with a theme, decor and organize/order catering, manage volunteers. Day-of volunteers help with set-up and clean up.
Date - December 13, 2024, and May 2, 2025
Time Commitment - Committee members will begin planning 6-8 weeks prior; Day-of volunteers are needed from set-up to clean up (approximately 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.)
STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK
Staff Appreciation Week celebrates our incredible faculty and staff with a week of gifts, goodies, and other expressions of gratitude. Past activities include an “appreciation station” where parents and students can leave notes of appreciation, coffee bars, smoothie carts, and organizing relaxing massages for all staff. Committee members will be provided with a budget to plan, organize/order supplies, and manage volunteers. Day-of volunteers are needed to help with set-up, execution, and clean up.
Date – April 26 – May 2, 2025
Time Commitment - Committee members will begin planning 6-8 weeks prior; Day-of volunteers should plan to spend 2-4 hours during their designated day
USED UNIFORMS
Volunteers work with the Committee Chair throughout the school year to maintain the inventory of used uniforms and organize/work the Used Uniform sales.
Date - August 26, 2024, September 5, 2024, April 17, 2025, June 3, 2025, and as the need arises
Time commitment - a few hours per semester
VALENTINE'S DAY
We will be setting up a love-ly treat buffet for students to enjoy during snack. Volunteer responsibilities include, event set-up, service, and clean up.
Date - February 14, 2025
Time commitment - 3 hours from set-up to clean up (approximately 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.)
ARTS DEPARTMENT SUPPORT
The PA supports the Arts Department by assisting with the execution of various activities, including setting-up visual art displays, providing refreshments at performances and showcases, possible concession sales, etc. Volunteers may also be tasked planning events, décor, organizing/ordering catering, set-up and clean up. You will be provided with a budget.

Time Commitment – varies per event, but usually 3 hours from set-up to clean up
ASB AND CLUB SUPPORT
The PA supports the ASB and student clubs in the execution of various activities and events throughout the year, including Prom (5/17). Volunteers may be tasked with working within a budget to organizing/ordering catering, set-up, and clean-up to support these student-led initiatives.

CEREAL DAY
We will be setting up a cereal bar for students to enjoy. Volunteer responsibilities include event set-up, service, and clean up.

SENIOR CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
Open to all parents to assist in the planning/ordering, execution, set-up/clean up, and managing volunteers and one or all of our Senior Celebrations throughout the year. You will be provided a budget. Events include: Last First Day (8/26), Senior Parent Information Night (4/14), College Day/Sr. Send Off Parade (5/2), Last Day/Chalk Day (5/16), Prom (5/17), Graduation Rehearsal Brunch (5/21), and senior only ASB-planned events.

The PA-DEI committee works to plan the most delicious day of the year featuring any number of different cuisines allowing our children to taste the world. Day-of volunteers help committee chairs with set-up, service, and clean up.

Time commitment - 5 hours from set-up to clean up (approximately 9:00 am – 2:00 pm)

I am thrilled that you are interested in learning more about the Sierra Canyon School Parent Association! From the day your child is enrolled, you not only become part of our Parent Association, but of our extended Sierra Canyon family as well.
There are a wide variety of meaningful ways in which you can participate in the SCSPA depending upon your availability. Whether you have several hours per week or just one hour per year, we offer volunteer opportunities in which you can spend quality time with your children, and the greater school community.
I hope you will join us for one or all five of our Parent Association Meetings held throughout the school year. Here, you will connect with new and current families, hear from the School's administration and get involved with our many committees and/or events.
