Students in 5th Grade recently returned from an unforgettable three-day trip to the Pali Institute, where they engaged in experiential learning surrounded by nature.
Located in the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains, Pali Institute allowed students to connect with the environment and experience learning in an entirely new way. During the trip, students participated in various hands-on activities, including tackling the High Ropes Course and learning Outdoor Skills that would prepare them for future adventures. Through physical and mental challenges, students strengthened their teamwork and problem-solving abilities. Mr. Johnson remarked, "The students have stepped out of their comfort zones and powered through what is, for many of them, their first time away from home."
The science aspect of the trip was just as exciting. Students learned about marine biology through a squid dissection and interacted with reptiles such as snakes, turtles, and bearded dragons during their "Living Fossils" session. These interactive experiences gave students a deeper understanding of the natural world and the opportunity to learn outside of a traditional classroom setting. Through day and night hikes, students explored the surrounding forest, developing a greater appreciation for nature as they learned about the local ecosystem and wildlife. Liam M. '32 reflected on the trip and shared, "My favorite part of Pali was hanging with my friends and looking at all the stars with Ms. Baker on the night hike."
Pali prides itself on being a place where "textbooks come to life," blending adventure, science, and personal growth throughout the trip. Students gained valuable lessons and strengthened friendships, creating memories that will stay with them for years.
