Trailblazer News

This month, Lower Campus students participated in an innovative activity that seamlessly integrates creativity, technology, and security.

In their Computer Science course, students embarked on a journey to design personalized QR codes for their online learning platform. Before diving into designs, they participated in digital security and safety discussions and learned to protect their codes from unauthorized access. These discussions underscored the potential risks of sharing personal information online and the significance of password protection and data encryption, building confidence in their ability to navigate online platforms safely and securely.

Through designing personalized QR code badges, students honed their digital design skills, learned about visual aesthetics, and explored graphic design principles. "This is one of my favorite projects to introduce to the students at the beginning of the school year," shared Mrs. Dobbs. "Not only is it a way for students to express their digital creativity, but it also gives me the opportunity to get to know my students and see their personalities and interests through their work." They discovered different design elements and incorporated their personal interests, making their badges a reflection of their individuality.

Kindergarten through 2nd Grade students demonstrated their creativity by hand drawing and coloring their badges while students in 3rd through 6th Grade were tasked with using an online graphic design tool to design their QR code badges. "I really like to see my designs come to life. It's awesome!" said Cameron V. '32. This hands-on activity offers a delightful educational experience that sets the stage for a lifetime of responsible online behavior and an interactive way to blend personal expression with digital security education.

These Trailblazers are setting a solid foundation to prepare for the challenges of the digital age and are empowered to become responsible digital citizens while nurturing their creative potential.
