Instructors: Dr. Lauren Deutsch, Mr. Pedram Pourghazi, Leslie Gonzalez, Rachel Coosaia, Rebecca Yeh, and Ms. Sepideh Sharifdashty

Class Description: This orchestral group is for students playing violin, viola, or cello at the level of Suzuki book 2 and up. These students must be committed to attending 80% of all rehearsals, attending all performances, and learning the notes to all of the music given independently or with a private teacher. An orchestra is very much like a team sport – we must practice together, and each student’s part is essential for the final product. Class time will be spent learning to put the different parts together, so students must be committed to learning the notes of their parts on their own. We will post videos of each part to aid in this process. We will work hard, tackle challenging music, and have a ton of fun in the process.
This group will require a video audition and depending on the needs of each students, it may require weekly or bi-monthly private lessons to keep up with the fast pace of the group. Advanced Orchestra is modeled after youth orchestras in the surrounding area such as CSUN Youth Orchestra and Conejo Valley Youth Orchestra. Students in this group will also perform with the SC Chamber Ensemble and prepare their parts for those pieces, however, much of the class time will be spent on orchestral arrangements. This group will perform at events such as homecoming, Grandparents’ Day, Pancake Breakfast, World Language Week, Music in the Canyons, Universal Studios, and other events. Participants should commit to taking the course year-round. Contact Dr. Lauren Deutsch [email protected] for more information about joining and to request audition materials.
